Zeal vs Punchh: enterprise restaurant loyalty or loyalty on the card machine

Punchh, now PAR Punchh and part of PAR Engagement, is an enterprise loyalty platform for multi-site restaurant brands. Guests identify with the brand's app or a wallet pass, scanned at the counter, kiosk or drive-thru, and PAR says it integrates with the major POS systems. Zeal runs on the payment terminal, recognising guests from the card they pay with.

How guests identify: PAR Punchh vs Zeal

With PAR Punchh, a guest identifies by scanning the brand's app or an Apple or Google Wallet pass, and PAR's Loyalty Pay can combine identification, earning and payment in one scan. With Zeal, the card payment is the identification: the guest taps as usual, is recognised from their card and earns during the payment, and new guests join on the card machine screen.

Recognise your regulars, then reward them

Zeal identifies the customer from the card, enrols new ones in a couple of taps on the terminal screen, and awards points, stamps or vouchers during the payment. Your customer database grows with every card payment, with nothing for the customer or your staff to remember.

Choosing between Zeal and PAR Punchh

PAR Punchh may suit you if you are a large restaurant chain that wants enterprise loyalty, offers and ordering across your own app, kiosks and POS. Zeal suits you if you want every card-paying guest to be able to earn without an app or pass, on supported card machines, including at sites without a POS integration.

FAQ

Zeal vs PAR Punchh

Frequently asked questions

What is Punchh now?

PAR Technology acquired Punchh in 2021. It is now PAR Punchh, one module of PAR Engagement, which PAR launched in June 2025 alongside offers, ordering and guest data.

How do guests identify with PAR Punchh?

According to PAR, guests use the brand's app or an Apple or Google Wallet Smart Pass that needs no app download, and Loyalty Pay lets them identify, earn, redeem and pay in a single scan at the counter, kiosk or drive-thru.

Does PAR Punchh need an app?

Not necessarily. The branded app is optional because guests can use a wallet pass instead, which is scanned at the point of sale. Zeal needs neither an app nor a pass: guests are recognised from their payment card.

How is Zeal different from PAR Punchh?

PAR Punchh is an enterprise platform built around the brand's app, passes and POS integrations. Zeal is distributed through payment providers and runs on their supported card machines, so recognition happens inside the card payment.
